Today while out walking through our back driveway to the barn, I noticed a feather wedged into the stone and completely upright. It seemed so out of place standing up like that in what I would consider a strong wind in the very windy place I live. It was so striking to me in that moment that I sat down next to it and focused inward to explore the message it was offering me. I do really love receiving messages from nature. They are always profoundly inspiring and often lead me to take action of some sort based on the message received.
Considering the attributes of feathers first in my contemplation, I know that they represent the air element and that when found on the ground, can indicate good luck or even a connection to the Divine, or that a departed loved one is watching over you. Thinking further, I have heard of finding a feather meaning that you are being encouraged to look within and take stock of your life. Since this feather is brown it is representing the Earth element which suggests grounding and stability.
So, what is the message? Taking into account that this brown feather is standing upright and is wedged tight into the gravel, I feel that for me it is representing the message of being grounded yet needing to allow myself more freedom to just be and explore my spiritual life. I can be stable and centered, but still fly free to pursue my inspirations knowing I am loved and valued by those in my present life and those who have passed.
The work to incorporate this message into my life is already happening. I find that when I receive these messages, they are confirmations of what is already manifesting within me. I’m not out consciously looking for signs to confirm what I am wanting to do. Rather, I am seeing signs outwardly that are letting me know I am on the right path. I trust these signs because they connect with my heart and my gut. Every single time I have gone against these signs and somatic feelings, I have regretted it. When I listen, is when I win. I win personal growth, courage, strength, and greater creativity. I am whole and I am inspired.
The next time you are out and about, especially in nature or natural surroundings, just allow yourself the time to see what is in front of you. Take the time to internally explore what you are seeing and how it makes you feel, where you feel it, and open yourself to receive whatever message comes to you. Let that message move you to new places, ideas, perspectives, and inspiration.
